Downloading Fedora 14
From the fedoraproject.org website, I downloaded Fedora 14 to my hard drive. It is evidently an "image file" which can subsequently be saved to a CD or DVD. The file is just under 700 MB, which is good since the CD-RW discs which I just bought hold 700 MB

Making the "image" CD
After downloading Fedora 14, the next step is to trasfer the file to a CD or DVD. I tried burning the file in Windows Vista, the operating system which I am currently running, but this did not seem to be supported. After considering the options, I decided to download a trial version of the Nero Burning ROM, obtained at Nero.com.
Downloading and installing the burning software has taken about 10 minutes so far and it appears that I'll have to reboot windows in order to use it. I'll publish this post and sign back on when I'm back online.

Image CD, continued
My computer is back up and I'm ready to make the image CD. I opened the Nero Burning ROM file and am currently installing the program.
While I have a few minutes, let me note that Fedora can be installed using a USB stick rather than a CD. Since I don't have one on hand, I'm using the presumably slower method.
I also have a browser window open to http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/14/html/Installation_Guide/sn-making-media.html#sn-making-disc-media which is awell-detailed documentation page of the Fedora Project website.

Still creating CD
The file to be burned to the CD is an ISO image file (whatever that is), so after I opened Nero (the installer put an icon on my desktop, which I used to open the program) that is the option I chose. A window opened, showing different options for CD-ROM ISO files. I chose "start multi-session disc" and also went to the "label" tab and entered the disc name as "fedora 14". On the "label" tab, I chose the "automatic" option. I then started burning the disc.

Starting Over with DVD
I just went to the local pharmacy and bought some DVD+RW discs with almost 5GB of storage capacity. I guess my 700MB CDs were not enough.
When I tried to start the burn, I got a message saying that the the fedora 14 file could not be burned to that type of disc. On the Nero trial tool bar, I checked the "recorder" tab and switched to "image recorder." That didn't work either.
Finally, on the "new compilation" window, I chose DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO) since Fedora 14 is an ISO file. This seems to be working. ...we'll see
